Creating a spoke

Create new digital workplaces for offices, portals, and organizations within your Networked Enterprise. When creating a new spoke, you can create it from an existing spoke template to save time and provides a familiar look and feel across your Networked Enterprise.

It can take up to 24 hours for the system to create a spoke. However, the system usually processes these events overnight (EST).

Spoke templates

A spoke template contains information about a digital workplace structure but does not include any content or users.

Templates include:

  • All site structure
  • Groups
  • Sign in settings
  • Session timeout
  • Social media sites
  • Localization
  • Theming (public themes)
  • Headers & footers
  • Custom profile fields
  • Profile fields (component set)
  • Labels
  • Optional: Channel Content (excluding events and tasks)

Templates do not include:

  • Archive policies
  • Users
  • Public registration settings
  • Community bookmarks
  • Tasks & task comments

See Templating a spoke for instructions on marking a spoke as a template.

How to create a spoke

  1. While signed into a digital workplace that is part of the Networked Enterprise, select  Control Panel.
  2. Under Resources, select EAP.
  3. Select Workplaces from the side panel.
  4. Select + Add new.
  5. Enter the following configuration details in the provided window:
    • Title: Enter the name of the spoke.
    • Domain: Enter the URL of the spoke. This URL must be unique. Typically, organizations have a single domain name, and only the subdomain changes. For example, https://www.{spoke subdomain}.{domain}.
    • Template: Select a template for the new spoke.
    • Copy channel content into new spoke: If you are using a template, select whether all channel content (excluding events and tasks) from the template a copied into the new spoke. The system will make the creator of the new spoke the author of any templated content in the new spoke.
    • Creator: Select the initial administrator of the spoke. This user also receives a notification when the spoke is ready. The current user is the default creator; however, you can search for and select any user in the Networked Enterprise.
  6. Select Create to queue the spoke for creation. A message will display indicating that the creation request has entered the creation queue, and the system will send an email to the creator informing them that the spoke will be created within 24 hours.
  7. Contact Igloo Support to ensure that the new spoke is properly domain mapped and whitelisted by email servers. Include the following information in your communication:
    • Indicate that you are creating a new spoke in your Networked Enterprise.
    • The URL of the digital workplace.

The system will send an email to the creator of the spoke when it is created.

Next Steps: Configuring your spoke
