Links widget

Use the Links widget to aggregate important links in a centralized location on a page or space. These links can be URLs that are internal or external to the digital workplace.

Set up

Follow these steps to set up this widget:

  1. Place a  Links widget on a page, space, or dashboard. For more information, see Placing and setting up a widget
  2. Select the placed widget's Edit button.
  3. Review and make changes to the settings on the Options, Layout, and Appearance tabs. You can find details about the widget's settings in the Settings section below.
  4. In the widget editor, select Update to apply your changes or Cancel to discard them.  
  5. At the bottom of your page, space, or dashboard, select Publish or Save as Draft to save your changes.

Settings

Setting Description
Title

Enter a title for the widget. The title appears as a heading above the widget's contents. You should use the title to provide context to the widget and better structure a page's content by clearly denoting different sections.

When entering a title, you do so only for your currently selected language. If your digital workplace supports multiple languages, you should select  Translation and enter a title for each supported language. 

This field can contain a maximum of 140 characters.

Description

Enter a description for the widget. The description appears between the title and the widget's contents. You can use this text to provide information to users about the widget.

Select how the widget displays links. Each display option has additional settings associated with it. Options include:

  • Default
    • Number of columns
    • Number of results

Select A View

This option is only available if the Layout is Individual or Group.

Select how the widget displays links. Options include:

  • List: Displays links as basic text.
  • Bar: Displays links with a customizable background or outline color.
Adding/Removing links

Add links to the widget by entering a Link title and associated URL. Entering a URL without an associated Link Title will cause the Links widget to display the URL. Entering a Link Title without a valid URL will add an inactive link to the Links Widget. A Name can be up to 140 characters while a URL can be up to 250 characters.

  • Add links to locations in your digital workplace by using the Community URL search box.
  • Select the checkbox next to a link to cause the link to open in a new tab.
  • Select the X next to a link to remove that link from the widget.
  • Select and drag the menu icon next to a link to reorder links.
  • Select Add Link to add additional link entry rows to the widget.

Adding/Deleting groups

This option is only available if the Layout is Group.

Select Add Group to create groups that links can be added to. Use the Group title text box to add a descriptive name to the group.

To delete a group, expand its option and select Delete Group. Deleting a group of links will also delete all the links in that group.

Links cannot be moved between groups.

Arrow style

Select whether links will have a navigational cue. Options include:

  • None
  • Arrow
  • Chevron
  • Filled chevron
Bar style

This option is only available if the Layout is Individual or Group, and the View is Bar.

Select whether the bar contains a colored Outline or Fill.

Bar color

This option is only available if the Layout is Individual or Group, and the View is Bar.

Select the color used by Bar style. Link text color will automatically change between white and black to improve contrast.

Enable accordions

This option is only available if the Layout is Group.

Select whether users can toggle whether a group shows or hides its links.

Group title color

This option is only available if the Layout is Group.

Select what color is used for the group title text. Use the default color, or enter a custom color.

Link title color

This option is only available if the Layout is Individual or Group.

Select what color is used for the link text.

Use the default color, or enter a custom color.

Line between links

This option is only available if the Layout is Individual or Group and the View is List.

Select whether a line appears between links.

Number of columns

This option is only available if the Layout is Default or Individual.

Select how many columns links will span. If the Widget is in a narrow side column avoid having multiple. Selecting a value other than 1 will remove the Number of results option.

Number of results

This option is only available if the Layout is Default or Individual.

Enter how many links to initially display. If this value is less than the number of links, users must select More to see the additional links. This option is not displayed when the Number of columns is greater than 1.

Layout tab
Setting Description
Class Enter CSS class selectors to provide additional styling to the widget. For more information, see Applying custom CSS to widgets.
Height Select the height of the widget. Options include:
  • Auto: The leftmost slider position. The height of the widget will increase and decrease to contain what it is displaying.
  • Fixed: Select a fixed height between 50px to 600px in increments of 50px. A vertical scrollbar will appear on the widget if the content exceeds this fixed value.
Appearance tab

Note

Your digital workplace's theme overwrites many of the settings on the Appearance tab. However, the settings listed above are usable.

Using it

Once configured, selecting a link in the Links widget will navigate a user to the associated URL. Whether this navigation occurs in a new browser tab or not is determined by how the link was set up in the widget. Refer to the Adding/Removing links in the Layout tab section above to learn more about changing this behavior.

If the Links widget is displaying a subset of its links, select More to view all the links it contains. Once expanded, select Less to display the minimum number of links.
