Uploading files and folders with File Manager

You can use the File Manager to upload new files or folders to your digital workplace or add new versions to existing files. You can only upload to existing files, folders, and folder channels where you have at least Write access. Larger files take longer to upload; select Status to view your current or past uploads. You cannot upload files that are larger than 2GB.

Considerations

  • Uploading to folder channels that require labels on files: You cannot use the File Manager to upload files to a folder channel that requires labels on files. Doing so will result in the error "Error creating document because the digital workplace settings require a label. Please login to your digital workplace in the browser to continue the pending upload process." and place the file in a pending upload state.

To continue publishing the file, you must log in to your digital workplace using a web browser and select Pending Uploads from the Userbar. After adding labels to the pending file, select Publish at the bottom of the page to complete uploading the file.

Upload files and folders

File Manager provides two different methods of uploading files and folders:

  • Drag and drop them into File Manager:
    1. In File Manager, go to the location where you want to upload.
    2. On your device, find the files or folders that you want to upload. You can only add files and folders to existing folders and folder channels.
    3. Select the files or folders you want to upload and drag and drop them into the file and folder listing of File Manager.
  • Use the Upload feature in File Manager:
    1. In File Manager, go to the location where you want to upload.
    2. On the Action bar above the list of files and folders, select the Upload followed by either Upload Files or Upload Folders.
    3. Use your device's file explorer to find and select the files or folders that you want to upload. You can select multiple files or folders at once by holding shift or ctrl.
    4. In your device's file explorer, confirm your selection to begin uploading the files or folders to your digital workplace.

When you upload a file with the same name and extension as one that already exists in the same location, you will have the option of uploading the file as a new version of the existing file or as a new file. If you upload it as a new file, the name will have a number appended to it to make it unique.

Add new versions to a file

In addition to uploading a file with a duplicate name, as described above, you can also select a file and add a new version to it.

  1. In the File Manager, go to the file's location.
  2. Right-click the file and select Add New Version.
  3. Use your device's file explorer to find and select the file you want to add as the new version.

Alternatively, after right-clicking the file, select Edit to make modifications to the file directly. See Editing files with File Manager.

Cancel an in-progress or queued upload

If a file is in the process of being uploaded, or it is still in the queue for being uploaded, you have the ability to cancel its upload. To do this:

  1. At the top of the left navigation pane, select Status.
  2. Find the upload that you want to cancel.
  3. Next to the file, select X to cancel it.
