Creating tasks

Use tasks to set goals and track progress on your projects. Tasks live on the To dos page, content, and task lists/channels and can be aggregated using a Tasks widget.

Create personal tasks

You can add personal tasks from the Userbar or your profile's To Dos page.

To add from the Userbar:

  1. On the Userbar, select To dos, and then + Create a new task....
  2. Start typing the name of your task in the provided text box.
  3. (Optional) Configure additional task settings. See the Task Options section below.
  4. Select Create task.

To add from your profile's To dos page:

  1. On the Userbar, select your username and then To dos
  2. Select the Tasks tab.
  3. Start typing the name of your task in the provided text box.
  4. (Optional) Select Options to configure additional task settings. See the Task Options section below.
  5. Select Create task.

Create content tasks

  1. Go to the content to which you want to add a task.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
  3. Select Tasks to expand it.
  4. Start typing the name of your task in the provided text box.
  5. (Optional) Select Options to configure additional task settings. See the Task Options section below.
  6. Select Create task.

Create task list/task channel tasks

  1. Go to the task channel.
  2. Start typing the name of your task in the provided text box.
  3. (Optional) Select Options to configure additional task settings. See the Task Options section below.
  4. Select Create task.

Create tasks via a Tasks widget

If a Tasks widget is configured to allow task addition, you can add tasks to the connected sources. However, this method can only be used for personal tasks and task channels. 

  1. Go to the page with the widget.
  2. If no tasks are in the widget, select Create a task. Otherwise, start typing the name of your task in the provided text box.
  3. (Optional) Select Options to configure additional task settings. If a widget is connected to multiple sources, ensure you are creating the task in the correct location. See the Task Options section below.
  4. Select Create task.

Create subtasks

Tasks on content and task channels support subtasks, which can have their own subtasks.

  1. Go to the task to which you want to add a subtask.
  2. Start typing the name of your task in the provided text box.
  3. (Optional) Select Options to configure additional task settings. If a widget is connected to multiple sources, you should ensure you are creating the task in the correct location. See the Task Options section below.
  4. Select Create task.

Task Options

These options are available when creating or editing a task:

Option Description
Title Enter a name for the task. This name will appear above the task and is how the task can be identified when it is surfaced elsewhere in the digital workplace. This field is required.
Description

Enter a description or additional details that relate to the task. For more information about the available editor tools, see WYSIWYG Editor.

This field is limited to 4000 characters.

Add a due date

Select when the task should be completed. 

You can specify a specific time by selecting Add a specific time and entering a time.

Private task Select to make the task private. Private tasks are only visible to you unless you assign them to someone else in your workplace.
Importance

Select an importance level for the task. Options include:

  • Low
  • Normal
  • High 
Assign to Assign the task to another digital workplace user. They will be notified of the assigned task by email, and the task will also be added to their To Do list.
Select a task list If available, select where the task is created. Options can include your personal task list or task lists/channels in your digital workplace.
