RSS Feeds
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content; this functionality has been tied into your IGLOO community. Content items which have RSS include blog posts, forum posts and calendar events. This means your members and visitors can sync your content with their own RSS Reader allowing them to see your content faster.
Using RSS
Using your RSS functionality is simple, in Public Communities on the bottom right corner of your Blog, Forum, or Calendar applications is an RSS logo. This logo when selected will bring you to your RSS URL. In some browsers you will be prompted with a choice of which RSS reader to add the feed. In others you will simply be sent to the RSS URL and you can copy it from the address bar, adding it manually to your choice of RSS reader. The RSS icon subscribes you to a specific feed depending on where you click it. Below you will find explanations of the different situations you will be able to subscribe to using RSS.
Blogs
When you first access your communities blog you will notice you are viewing all posts from all channels. Selecting the RSS icon in the bottom right of this page would subscribe you to every post in every channel. If you were to select a specific channel, then select the RSS icon you will be subscribing to only items posted under the selected channel. When viewing an article in full you will still be able to select the RSS icon in the bottom right, this action will subscribe you to all posts within the same channel as the article.
Calendar
When you access the calendar page you will have an RSS icon in the bottom right, clicking on this link will provide you with updates of events posted to the site. When viewing specific events an RSS icon is again available and will subscribe you to all events.
Forums
Forums have an RSS feed available on all topic landing pages. This means that after seeing the available forums and selecting the one you would like to read you will see a list of topics. This page contains the RSS icon and will provide you with a feed consisting of all topics posted under that forum.
RSS Widget
Another RSS tool provided to you is an RSS widget which can be added to a page when creating and editing. This widget can pull multiple RSS feeds from your community or an external source.
Private Communities & Private Content
For Private communities the RSS icon is not visible on the bottom right corner of the Blogs, Calendar or Forums applications. RSS also comes with some limitations when you are a public community but have private content (ex: private blog channels); you will still see RSS links located in the bottom right of eligible content. However adding these links to RSS readers will result in the feed not syncing with your RSS reader.
Please note this is not a limitation of the community feature but rather that RSS traditionally is meant for non-private feeds, demand for secure RSS feeds has increased in recent years but RSS readers simply lack advanced features to connect to authenticated RSS feeds.
