Primary Navigation
Pages
Adding and managing Pages in a community is done through the Site Manager located in the Control Panel. There is also a Quick Add function from the user bar.
Within this add page or edit page view, administrators have access to a collection of new application widgets which allow authorized members to select, drag and drop, configure and populate community Pages.
Access & Permission:
- Only Administrators can create and edit Pages (please see Notes about Customer Beta below)
- Pages can be hidden from the navigation
- Pages can be set to public or private
- Please note that permission for pages do not cascade like Folders do; each page exists as a single entity with a virtual hierarchy for grouping
- If a Page is set to Private
- Members have Read access by default
Advanced Tab
- This feature helps you to begin to improve your on page SEO. That's good news for administrators of public sites, hoping to drive traffic to their site through organic search.
- The Advanced Tab for each page allows on page factors like page title, meta-descriptions, relevant keywords and search engine robots to be customized thoughtfully.
Navigation Hints:
- Page Title - define what you want to appear in the browser window
- Navigation Title - define what you want to appear in the community navigation
- URL Identifier - define what web address you want this page to have
Layout Hints:
- Drag and Drop - create page content by dragging and dropping the widgets into the defined content area.
- Columns and Rows - configure your page into any layout you want by adding or removing rows and columns.
- Column Options - the page grid is confined to three column options:
- 1 column - the entire width of the page
- 2 columns - one larger column with a narrower side column (either to the right or the left)
- 3 columns - one medium sized column flanked by narrower side columns
Also, authorized members can "Save as Draft", view an old version and "Publish" Pages when complete.
Notes:
Administrators have full access (i.e. creating, editing, publishing, etc.) for Pages; all other member groups can only read (or have no access at all).
The initial design of the "edit page" screen is such that it allows the editor to manipulate the url to the page in question and only Administrators can totally see all of implications of modifying and choosing URLs for their page as they have access to utilities like URL mapping, and how modifying a url will impact other pages which link to the system.
Attention: The existing Folder structure in "older" communities will be backwards compatible. This means that all customers who are using Folders to edit/display their community content (i.e. public website) can continue to do so (html option will still be available), but they can no longer add any new top level pages using community Folders. They will need to create new community pages using the new Page framework.
