What is messaging?
The ability for members of a community to interact (through messaging) with each other without disclosing their email addresses. Community collaboration can happen on a more one-to-one, private bases between members. You can also broadcast messages to a group.
Where Do I Find the Messaging Actions?
There are three places that you can find the "Send Message" link.
1 ) From the Member Directory (Please note that this and associated actions are not available in the Member Directory if the page view is set to "Basic"):
2) Your Contacts List. (Please note that this and associated actions are not available in the Member Directory if the page view is set to "Basic").
3) From an Item Landing Page - the link sits below the user's name.
How Do I Message Someone?
Clicking on the Send Message link opens up a popup box with subject and body fields.
Once you click Send Message you will receive a confirmation message with links to close the window or proceed to your Messages section.
How will I receive my messages?
Messages are saved and stored in each user's Message tab (under their profile section). New messages are distinguished with a "star" and bold headings.
In the User Bar (top left hand corner where you login), you will see a number in brackets beside Messages indicating how many are waiting for you.
Email notifications for messages will be set to Enabled by default for all new members, which means you will get a system generated email with your message.
Clicking on the message brings up the entire message thread. The plain text Reply box is below the thread.
Things to Note:
Flagging & Notifications: Messages can be 'flagged' and turn red as a reminder to the user. Flagged messages can be filtered for easy browsing.
