Desktop Client Application

Desktop Client Application

Note: The IGLOO Desktop Client is currently only compatible with Microsoft XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 x32 bit operating systems. Currently there is no support for 64 bit Windows. We are developing a new application for 64 bit windows and hope to have it completed by the end of the year.

The Desktop Client is an extension of Microsoft Windows Explorer and is used to display community work areas as folders and files on a user's PC desktop.  The most common operations performed on a folder/file within an IGLOO community can now be performed from your desktop.

Note: To be able to use the Desktop Client you must be a member of the customer care community and be in our list of participating communities.

Installation

Note: It is required to uninstall previous versions of the Desktop Client before proceeding with your installation. (uninstall instructions at bottom of page)
Restart required after previous version is removed.

The Desktop Client installer comes as a zipped executable file which must be downloaded.  Simply click "Download" to install the Desktop Client.

Using Desktop Client

The Desktop Client will appear as a folder (icon) under "My Computer" named IGLOO Desktop.  The icon can be renamed to match the name of your community.

    • Validated credentials will remove the prompt box when you click "Submit".
    • Incorrect credentials will produce an error.  Re-enter the correct data.
    • The email address and password need only be entered once - they will be remembered by the Desktop Client for as long as it is installed.

3.   A list of folders reflecting those in your online community will appear. Only communities that have been enabled to use the desktop client will have their files shown in this list.

  • Double-click on a folder to display all available work area folders and files.
  • Communities and community content is permission-based - you will only have access to the folders you have permission to access.

  • Files and folders can also be dragged and dropped.

3. Saving New Files

  • Example: Open Notepad and add some text.

  • Navigate to Desktop Client.
  • Navigate to the specific community.

Is there a Mac OSX version of the desktop app in the works?

IGLOO Webmaster IGLOO Webmaster said 6 months ago

Is there a timeline of when Windows 7 64 bit will be ready?

Bryan Willey Bryan Willey said 5 months ago

We can't update the old one to 64-bit unfortunatly. We are developing a new client from the ground up. Beta should be available for clients by the end of the year. This is the current timeline.
