Broadcasts
What is a broadcast?
Broadcasts allow you to send content such as blogs, documents, wiki entries, forum posts, calendar events to members of a group via IGLOO messaging. These messages are then received in context of the community by the user bar, checking the messages tab in your profile or by email will show items which have been broadcasted to a group your a member of.
How do broadcasts work?
- The broadcast link can be found in the trailer bar when viewing an item which can be broadcasted
- Users can message to groups by choosing from a checklist; the group list is permissioned so only groups that the user is a member of will be listed
- Only Administrators can email the "Members" & "Administration" groups
- The sender of a broadcast will receive a notification via the messages area of their profile. They will only receive a message in their inbox confirmming that the broadcast has been sent.
Users can now broadcast to more than one group at a time. The group listing displays with check boxes and expands with a scroll bar if necessary. Clicking on the icon beside the group name will open up a new browser window to the group member listing in the member directory.
Broadcast through Messaging
- Broadcast messages are sent through our Messaging system; if the user has email notifications enabled they will also get an email
- Broadcast messages are sent directly to your inbox, with the heading Broadcast preceeding the subject, along with the broadcast icon on the left hand side.

Can you restrict the ability to broadcast messages? I manage a portal of 1000+ users and some of which have been sending out broadcasts (that go out to the ENTIRE community) when they should be messaging me directly. Please help! thanks
Yes. By Default users can only broadcast to groups they are part of. If you wish to resrtict this, in your control panel Then -> Settings -> Other Settings you can disable broadcasts.
Advanced users can use CSS to hide some broadcast options if they do not wish to disable it completely.
Thanks for the quick reply - I've disabled the ability to broadcast. Not sure how to do option #2 so I may just re-enable it when I need to send my next one out.
Love the broadcast feature, but not crazy about the email format that is received...
Is it possible to change the subject line. "New Message: Broadcast: title of page here" is not ideal.
