Introduction to Blogs
IGLOO blogs provide members with a means to express their personal viewpoint and to share web sites, events, or other pertinent information with visitors and/or other members. Blogs are formed in layers. The "Blog" is the feature, which is followed by the "Channel", where you can pick categories for blogging, and then comes "Articles" which are the written pieces by users, that can be posted into a channel. Depending on your permissions, you may be able to post to one or all channels within a blog.
The blog mainpage displays the latest blogs, lists the various blog channels, and shows who has recently commented on a blog. From here you can go and view the recent activity in the blogs folder, go to view the blogs, or add new blog channels.
Create a Blog
To create a new blog channel go to the blog's page and click on + icon above the existing blog channels (only members with "Full" access can create new channels). Give your blog channel a name and perhaps an introduction header by clicking the action button. You are able to add articles from two locations, first from the blog page and second from within a channel you have created. Both methods are done by selecting the Add Article button in the top right area of the page.
(only members with "Write" or "Full" access for a particular channel can add new articles).
Once you've made an article you can create content, add links to other webpages, add pictures to it, or embed media on the page using the web editor.
Pending your Blog Post Date
Once you have written a blog article you can set the publish date. If you want your article to be published coinciding with a future event (an upcomming report, release date, etc.) simply set the publish date and time you want the article to come out. You can find your pending posts accessing your To Do's.
Attachments
When posting a blog entry you are able to attatch a file to your post. This file can be anything which falls under the 30MB upload limit.
- To add an attachment, you must be in edit mode.
- Click "Add Attachment" and you can upload up to 20 files.
- Members with permission to edit an object can add, delete or update attachments.
- Note: there is no version control for attachments and attachment content is NOT indexed by the search engine.
Removing or Editing a Published Blog
If you've published an article that you are not satisfied with you can select edit from the articles action drop downit to fix it up or if you'd like to remove the article entirely, you can click "delete" from the posts action drop down.
Tips for Writing a Blog Article
- Successful blogs are engaging, entertaining and thought provoking to their readers, and have a distinct voice and personality. The ideas are well presented and easy to follow.
- Some blogs may be funny, intense, or informational based on their content, but all blogs should be truthful, respectful of your audience and relatively consistent.
- Blogs are not news stories; they are commentaries on newsworthy events.
- You are not limited to one entry per day or week.
