Google Reader: "rss does not provide a feed" message
Hi,
I've set up an RSS link for the blogs on our IGLOO site as https://community.fineos.com/.feed/blogs?feeds=rss. It works in the browser - I've successfully set up feeds on Firefox 3.6 using Live Bookmarks - but a user reported the following:
It's not working with Google Reader. I get an error message as follows.
https://community.fineos.com/.feed/blogs?feeds=rss does not provide a feed.
I know little about Google Reader and have very limited time to research this, so at this stage I only have list with a few possible culprits. A quick search with ... Google seemed to indicate that it might be about the html the site provides. But we use SSL so I'm conscious that authentication there could be keeping the Reader's nose out of the feeds. Or should I craft an html tag that goes beyond the crude feeds=rss URL?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers, Andy

Hi Andy....
The RSS icon is not visible in private communities but I can see that you've crafted the url for the blogs RSS. The RSS will work in your private community but ONLY if the user is signed in…if not - they won't see anything.
Hope this helps,
Tanya
Hi Tanya,
Yes, I appreciate that a post's link would not be accessible unless the user signs on - which is just what we want for our site. But I could set up a feed on my own browser using Live Bookmarks, no errors thrown, logged out and could still see the feeds list, clicked on one and was asked to sign on, after which it let me through to the post.
The experience with with Google Reader sounds like it just won't let you subscribe at all?

Hi,
I was wondering whether there were any updates on this - e.g. was Google Reader tested with an IGLOO Community? I'd like to get back to my user.
Andy
Hello Andy
I have looked into your users issue and determined that it's Google Reader as a product that does not support secure RSS feeds. It simply does not provide the options to enter authentication for the feed when adding it.
Jesse
Ok - I'll pass on the information - Thank you
