I'm trying to find help with access permissions on folders. I've set a subfolder permissions to private and 'write' for a specific group only. But when I access the folder as a non-member I have full access. This does not make any sense to me. The parent folder does not have the cascade box checked so this is not not the problem and when I test the access I am not signed in as an Administrator. The process seems to work for blogs and forums but not folders.

Also I would like to know what is the incoming mail sever name to set up our community's email on Outlook?

Hi Kim,

After investigation it was determined that while the Member didn't belong to the Group that was assigned access, the individual Member was granted Access.  Access levels are always granted by highest level and in this case the individual Member had higher Access level than the group that they belonged to.

Thanks for asking the question.  Access/permissions can be tricky!

For the benefit of others, here is a re-enactment of your situation:

Sally Sue belonged only to the Members group.
A folder was created and via Action Button> Access, Member access was removed (set to none) and Access was only granted to one group - that Sally Sue was not a member of.  So theoritically, Sally Sue should not be able see the contents of this folder - but she could.
However, at some point in time someone granted Sally Sue as a individual FULL access to this folder.

Lessons learned:
When you cascade you do not overwrite existing access settings, only your changes are applied.
The highest level of access will always be respected.  In this case FULL vs none.
Best practice is to use Groups when applying Access whenever possible.
