Enhancements for Labels
Labels are a great way to organize content in the community. It would be even better if both their management and use can be made easier. My top suggestions for improving labels:
- Have dedicated Label Management area in Control Panel (currently cumbersome in an individual item)
- Allow labels to be applied to multiple items or even content types (say across a search result set)
- Allow for assignment prior to uploading files (also for multiple file upload)
- Add label hierarchy to the filter pane for search results (currently it opens up if a label is clicked, but this is less intuitive)
- Have a Label Widget that can be used anywhere it makes sense
Thanks!

Administrators can create tags which members can apply to relate and organize their information across the community. This kind of meta data describes an item and allows it to be found more easily by browsing and searching. Labels help users to find information more effectively and add relational value to content within the context of your community.

I also believe that these suggestions would be great improvements to the labels system.
I think it would be very useful for members to be able to "filter" results by more than one label (being able to see results tagged with two or more labels rather than only being able to select one).
Thank you for your great suggestions. I have passed these on to our product manager to be placed on our product road map, they will be evaluated and prioritized during release planning.
+1 for me on the ability to Filter Search Results by Label. You should also consider a Search within the Browse Labels.
I would even be fine with the ability to narrow search results by a specific folder within the Library, but labels are definitely the way to go.
BTW - Why not instead of calling them "Labels" you call them "Tags"? This is really what they are, and this will eliminate the need to educate the majority of people on what "Labels" are.
In our latest release searching for a item will show related labels at the bottom of the search. This is not quite what your recommending Paul, but it's a step in the right direction.
Thanks, Jesse - Yes, I did notice that, and yes it is certainly helpful from a browsing aspect.
It appears to me that if I e.g. upload a document, I need to first upload a document and then edit it in order to add labels. Quite complicated, and I don't find it likely that users will go through this extra step. What are your future plans for the label/tags functionality?
+1 for more leverage of labels and label groups (aka tag and tag groups). This is currently too buried in the application.
Exposing as a labels group widget would transform the way that content can be organised. Fixed hierachical structures are limiting, there always come a time when some content could go in several places.
At present you have two choices regarding where your content lives: (1) Page structures, (2) Wiki Entries. The former gives you 'too much' structure, the later 'too little'.
The What's New widget is particularly frustrating as it aggregates across all content, the Filter by access control group isn't that hepful. Filter by labels would be soooo much more useful. The same goes for adding a labels filter for recent contributions and recent comments.

I'd like to see the labels that have been applied to show up just beside or under the Event. Just under the Time Frame for the event. This would allow me to see each Event labeled at a glance on the summary.
