Who has access to use the broadcast tools? Is it only site Administrators? Or should someone who has Admin permissions on their own blog be able to use the broadcast tool on their own blog?

Hi Juanita,

The broadcast feature is associated with community groups and not with the ownership of a blog.

Members can broadcast to groups that they belong to. For example User A belongs to the Research Team group but not to the Conference group, so User A can broadcast only to the Research Team group.

Administrators have the added ability of broadcasting the both the Members and Administrators groups.

For more information please check out the wiki page on Broadcast.

Thanks Tanya, that's helpful for understanding who can do what.

Hi there,

The description above makes perfect sense, but I might just have experienced a different behaviour.

Our site has a plain security structure with just two groups of users: Members (everyone is) and Staff (for higher access privileges). A user from the latter group published a blog today, and wanted to broadcast it to everyone. However he can only see the a check-box for the 'Staff' group after clicking on Broadcast.

I would have expected him to be able to see a Members and a Staff check-box, since he's in both groups?

Your user will be able to see the "Staff" group and not "Members"

The reason for this is that the group "Members" is something only administrators can see as it is a collection of every member in the community.

Thanks for the prompt reply Jesse.

In this case what would be the best way to achieve the functionality I am after - for exampl, would it make sense to create another custom group ("Everyone" or something along those lines) that mirrors the Members list?

If that allows to "unlock" the Broadcast to all members, while having no impact on permissions throughout the site, I might go with it.

Hello Andy,

Your suggestion of using a group that contains all members would achieve content contributors to be able to broadcast to all members. Keep in mind that being able to broadcast to every member is an administrative ability set in place to protect against spam and abuse of this functionality. Knowing that you have a private community changes the concern of spam and abuse; however ensure everyone is familiar and following the IGLOO Terms of Use.
