PNG, GIF, JPEG
Choosing the right image format can be tricky, especially when you need to consider file size and quality. Not to mention issues like browser compatability and operating system gamma correction. We won't get into that this time around...
First we will begin with something simple. Improving our vocabulary and a quick reference guide to compare file size and quality based on format.
Pronunciation
GIF - Graphics Interchange Format
The author of the file format GIF pronounces the acronym with a soft G like giraffe, not with a hard G like gift
PNG - Portable Network Graphics
The PNG specification (or the Scope section of the newer ISO/IEC/W3C version) states that PNG is pronounced in English as "ping" not "pinj" or "pee en gee". However, for non-English speakers, the three-letter pronunciation is accepted.
